• Celebrating Differences
a. Dr. Betty Siegel is President Emeritus of Kennesaw State University and Distinguished Chair at the Siegel Institute for Leadership, Ethics and Character.  She was the first woman to head an institution in the University System of Georgia and was also the longest serving female president at a public institution in the country.  Dr. Siegel will be speaking on the subject of diversity and the importance of celebrating differences.

a. The presentation will focus on ways in which disability is portrayed in select forms of entertainment.

• Native American Images: Mascots – Pride or Prejudice?
a. Is geared to explore how images of Native Americans have been represented in our society; the stigma that are attached to certain images and the impacts they have on the community; and whether images have changed to better represent Native American strengths and culture.

• Confederate flag: What does it mean in 2009?
a. Is geared to explore the historical context of the confederate flag; the values and traditions attached; investigate how views have changed within different groups; and how the flag is symbolic of Southern pride vs racism.
b. Facilitated by: Dr. Gibbs Knott, Dr. Chris Cooper, and Dr. Lance Alexis
c. Time and location: 3:30 p.m. UC Theater

• Affrilachian: Voices and images of the African American Experience in Appalachia
a. Excerpts from Coal Black Voices: The Affrilachian Poets followed by an intimate discussion with Jackson County native and WCU alum, Victoria Casey-McDonald and North GA native and WCU faculty member Marie T. Cochran.

• Rural Appalachian Identity and Immigration Today
a. Will explore the history of this part of the state; how the values and beliefs of the people have changed or stayed the same; understand what the Mountain feelings are about immigration; and learn why immigrants are coming to Appalachia and the services needed to meet the needs of our community.

• Redefinition of Identity
a. lecture explores the search for “cultural identity” through the personal story of the presenter as an out, Asian American, woman growing up the rural south, overcoming obstacles such as racism, prejudice, stereotyping, homophobia, bi-phobia within the LBGT community, filial piety, and a severe disability (Tourette’s Syndrome), allowing for a greater level of understanding about identity among student participants. 
b. Presented by Magdalen Hsu –Li, Key note speaker at Mosaic Intercultural Dinner

• Mosaic Intercultural Celebration Dinner
a. Dinner will showcase various performances by student groups on campus.  Performances will vary from traditional dances, acts, solos, poetry, and demonstrations.  The show will introduce audience to a wide range of club initiatives which will increase student interest and participation in future events/club meetings.
b. Time and location: 5 – 7:30 p.m. U.C. Grand Room
