Area students to test foreign language skills March 15

More than 375 high school students from across Western North Carolina will test their knowledge of French and Spanish on Thursday, March 15, in Western Carolina University’s 25th Annual Foreign Language Contest.

The competition, sponsored by WCU’s department of modern foreign languages, will be held at the Ramsey Regional Activity Center.

Individuals and teams will compete in the categories of art, music, quiz bowl, native speaker quiz bowl, skits, show and tell, “Who Am I?,” poetry recitation, how-to, extemporaneous speaking, and video commercial.

The competitions begin at 9 a.m. with doors opening at 8 a.m. at the Ramsey Center. An awards ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Department of modern foreign languages students, faculty and staff, along with volunteers from other departments on campus, will serve as judges.

Participating high schools include Carolina Day, Enka, Franklin, Highlands, Mitchell, North Henderson, Pisgah, Rabun County, Roberson, Tuscola and West Henderson.
