Fabric Type and Color :
Cotton. The brown print, double pink, black print, floral/striped fabric in set blocks, and the manganese-brown print in upper half of the pieced blocks all date to the 1870s and 1880s. The red and black plaid in a few blocks on the bottom row is from the 1890s. Backing is made of cotton sacks dyed with black walnut hulls. Batting may be clothing or another sack.

Construction : Pieced by hand. Quilted by hand all over in parallel lines one inch apart at 5 stitches to the inch showing on the surface. Binding is a separate Alamance plaid.
