History/Comments : According to family lore, the quilter was something of a Southern Belle and enjoyed the luxury of having servants to cook and clean. Therefore, she was free to take time and sew the individual scraps of material together for the quilt top. Commemorative ribbons on the quilt are imprinted with dates of 1886. The embroidered motifs on this quilt are exceptionally strong in color choice and skill level. Most were probably made using hot-iron transfer patterns or the maker copied printed motifs to the fabric. Some motifs are unfinished and the penciling is still visible.
