Where Do WCU Communication Students Do Their Internships?
While you might think Cullowhee is a little out of the way, students from the Department of Communication do their internships in some of the largest markets in the country. A student is qualified to do their internship after completing 90 hours of study. Typically, many students choose to do their internships between their junior and senior years. Some students choose to do their internship their last semester in school.From a communication student summer 2009 about his internship:
". . . I was just emailing you to tell you how excited I am about my internship. WBT, or "The Colossus of the South," is an amazing radio station to do an internship with. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The history of the station is also something to brag about with Charles Kuralt, Grady Cole, Charles Crutchfield and even Jason Lewis, who just signed a national syndication deal with Premier Radio, have all graced these studios as Charlotte talk show hosts.I have learned so much about this career field that I have chosen just by being here. So far I've call screened, ran the control board for "Charlotte's Most Beloved" John Hancock, and have done a lot of work with the station website. I cannot wait to start back this semester, being a senior, and bringing real-world experience back to Power 90.5. I also work with two other shows here at WBT so I can get as much experience as possible."
