WCU is a University of North Carolina Campus

Alternative Licensure Program
Western Carolina also offers an Alternative Licensure Program, which is designed to recruit, train, and support recent college graduates, mid-career professionals, and retirees as they enter the teaching profession. This program provides applicants with three options, depending upon their desires and qualifications: a plan for meeting teaching licensure requirements, help with securing a job as a lateral entry teacher, or guidance for completing Western Carolina University’s Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree.

The Troops and Spouses to Teachers Program is a great source of information and support for military veterans and spouses who are pursuing teaching licensure. More information on the Troops/Spouses to Teachers Program can be found at: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/troops. The North Carolina Troops to Teachers/Spouses to Teachers Coordinator can be reached at (888) 878-1600 or ttt@dpi.state.nc.us.

Military veterans who are interested in learning more about the teaching profession can contact WCU’s Office of Alternative Licensure.
