*Students who completed degree requirements in August are eligible to participate in the December ceremony

Ceremonies are un-ticketed events and there is no limit to the number of your family and friends who may attend however, it is recommended they arrive early.  Shuttle services will be available throughout campus. 

Line-up:  All candidates for degrees must be in line one hour before the processional.  During the line-up, each candidate will be given an index card that lists name, line-up number, academic honors (if applicable) and other pertinent information.  Correct positioning is of critical importance.

Special Accommodations:  Graduating students needing special accommodations for disabilities should contact Dr. Lance Alexis, Director of Disability Services at 828-227-7127 or e-mail lalexis@email.wcu.edu. Audience members with disabilities who require assistance should contact the Ramsey Activity Center at 828-227-7677. 

Awarding of Degrees:  Approaching the stage, each candidate will give his/her name card to the faculty marshal standing at the top of the ramp.  When the candidate’s name is read, the candidate walks across the stage to Chancellor Belcher, extends his/her right hand to shake hands and receives the diploma cover in his/her left hand. 

Photographs: As each graduate is handed his/her diploma, a picture will be taken by a professional photographer.  You will receive an e-mail from the photographer with a link to their website and instructions to view your graduation photograph.    Additionally, a free color proof will be mailed to your permanent address and you will have the opportunity to purchase your color prints however, you are under no obligation to purchase these prints.    If you do not receive a proof within a week of the ceremony, please contact info@photospecialties.com. or call-1-800-722-7033.

Absent from Ceremony:  If you cannot be present for the commencement ceremony, please complete the Request to be excused from Commencement Ceremony Form found at http://www.wcu.edu/excused_from_commencement.pdf.
