Psychopathology in Film
Offered during Mini-mester, May 11-26

PSY 393 Psychopathology in Film
The major purpose of this course is to generate discussion of some of the major types of psychopathology by analysis of the manner in which these psychopathologies are demonstrated in the films chosen. Through analysis of the motivations of the directors and character development of the actors in the films chosen, I hope to provide the students with information about the symptomotology, etiology and treatment approaches for some of the major mental disorders. Each class begins with Professor Minor doing an overview of the psychopathology that will be illustrated in the film chosen for that day. After watching the film, we discuss examples of how the characters in the film demonstrate the symptoms of the mental disorders presented in the film. Given the format for this class, there are no tests or exams. Rather, the student’s grade is primarily based on a paper.
