Western Carolina University will be celebrating the annual Jackson County Youth Art Month with an exhibit of student work beginning on Monday, March 12, and continuing until Friday, March 30.
The exhibition will be presented in the Fine and Performing Arts Center north hallway, with a public reception on Sunday, March 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. and an awards ceremony beginning at 1:40 p.m. in Room 130.
The exhibition will feature artwork from more than 400 Jackson County students in recognition of the National Youth Art Month celebration. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to submit entries. The deadline to enter is Friday, March 9.
The artwork will be judged by WCU art education students. Cash prizes will be awarded, and some winning selections will earn placement in the College of Education and Allied Professions’ permanent display in the Killian Building.
The Youth Art Month Exhibition is sponsored by Jackson Paper, Country Framers, Country Classic Realty, Western Carolina Properties, Charles Wolfe and State Farm Insurance, Zaxby’s, Wal-Mart of Sylva, Ingles of Sylva, Jackson County Arts Board, and WCU’s College of Education and Allied Professions, department of art, and art education club.
