Stage and Screen Mission Statement

The Department of Stage and Screen operates under the auspices of the College of Fine and Performing Arts at Western Carolina University. The department provides instruction in Theatre Arts, Dance and Motion Picture Television Production.

The role of the Department of Stage and Screen is to implement the respective missions of the University and the College of Fine and Performing Arts through curricular and discipline-related activities.

The Department also serves the university community and the region using the resources of the department to find integrated solutions in meeting its mission.

It is the mission of the Theatre and Dance program and its professional faculty to educate our students to become learned and creative members of the work force in theatre and related technologies and/or to pursue graduate study. Our goal is to provide students with a solid foundation in history, theory, and criticism and a wide variety of both traditional and new production experiences integrating experiential activities with their classroom experiences.
