Research & Instruction Librarian (Position #2091)

Hunter Library seeks an intellectually curious, service-oriented reference librarian to join its staff. This librarian will provide research assistance, information literacy instruction and collection development services to  the Department of History (undergraduate students, master’s students and 16 faculty),  the  Department of Philosophy and Religion (undergraduate students and 6 faculty), and other constituencies as assigned. Special aspects of the position include supporting all users’ discovery of Hunter Library’s rich collection of historical resources in print, microform, and digital formats, unique materials in Special Collections, and interdisciplinary resources such as retrospective newspaper collections.

All reference librarians at Hunter participate in the full range of general reference and instructional services, including some evening and weekend hours. The 12-month, tenure-track position reports to the Head of Research and Instruction.

Research & Instruction Librarian (Position #2862)

Hunter Library seeks a creative, service-oriented reference librarian to join its staff. This librarian will provide specialized library services to the students and faculty in the Mathematics & Computer Science Department (undergraduate students, master’s students and 18 faculty) and the Kimmel School, which comprises two departments: Construction Management and Engineering & Technology and which has undergraduate students, master’s students and 29 faculty. Responsibilities include collection development and information literacy instruction, development of research guides and tutorials, serving as the department’s ambassador for overarching issues for the university’s distance learner and creating general online tutorials, especially in the context of serving distance learners.

Collection Development Library/Assistant Unit Head

Western Carolina University's Hunter Library seeks a Collection Development Librarian to provide leadership in acquiring library resources in a variety of formats and to assist in managing the Collection Development and Resources Management Unit, including direct supervision of acquisitions functions. This position will articulate the direction, balance and emphasis of all collections, as well as formulate policies. The Collection Development Librarian will coordinate and support the work of the liaisons to academic departments in their efforts to develop collections in their areas, and will direct the work of 2 support staff in acquiring library monographic materials. This position will also work with the teaching faculty who are planning new programs or courses or preparing for accreditation visits. Other duties include budget allocation and management; monitoring publishing trends in all formats; and cooperative collection development in the context of a three institution consortium. This librarian will play a key role in analyzing the use of library resources, assessing the collection, and staying abreast of trends in scholarly communication. The successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward-thinking, collaborative, and up to the challenge of providing necessary resources for a variety of programs, including online and distance education initiatives.
