A Student Community Ethics Hold (SCEH) prevents a student from completing the following university processes: pre-registration, registration, drop/add, withdrawal, graduation, receiving transcripts, etc. The SCEH is placed on a student’s account for a variety of reasons including non response to a university official, lack of completion of judicial sanctions, allegations that may result in suspension/expulsion, or otherwise failing to engage in the student judicial process (Article V.A-Student Role).
Preliminary Student Community Ethics Hold: (Procedures for Students Facing Disciplinary Charges Who Wish to Withdraw from the University) The Department of Student Community Ethics (DSCE) is committed to the efficient and thorough completion of all cases resulting from allegations of violations of the Student Code of Conduct. Students with pending disciplinary charges will not be allowed to withdraw from the university until their cases are resolved through the Department of Student Community Ethics.
1. In cases that may result in a suspension or expulsion, as determined by the DSCE, a preliminary SCEH will be placed on a student’s transcript.
2. The SCEH is intended to ensure that the case proceeds through the student judicial process prior to that student’s withdrawal and application to or enrollment at another institution of higher learning.
3. In other cases (cases which have not been flagged with a preliminary SCEH), the DSCE will check regularly with the Advising Center to get an update of students who recently withdrew either officially or unofficially from Western Carolina University.
4. Upon receipt of the recent withdrawal list, the DSCE will cross-reference the names to any outstanding judicial cases and immediately place a SCEH on those student accounts.
5. The SCEH will remain on a student’s account until the student conduct process has been concluded.
