It is well-known that the current recession is having a wide-ranging negative impact on the US. WCU is not immune to the economic downturn and the effects of State budget cuts are beginning to be felt on campus. WCU is committed to keeping students up to date on the impact these budget cuts will have on campus life. Additional information will be posted to this website as new information becomes available.

Dear Students: In his most recent public address regarding the budget situation, Dr. Bardo details WCU’s strategic approach to the budget shortfall. He explains how the effected areas are addressing the shortfall and the impact the budget cuts will have in the future. While these are difficult times, the university has mainly managed to meet budget by eliminating vacant positions and decreasing operational expenses. As the current economic downturn is not expected to rebound in the next year, the Chancellor is charting the next steps to address what is expected to be a prolonged period of challenging State budgets. These steps include a longer-term re-arrangement of resources to focus the institution much more clearly on the future and WCU’s core, high quality programs. To follow up the chancellor's presentation, the SGA is arranging a public forum on Monday, April 6th at 4:00pm in the UC Theatre. The SGA understands that many students are curious about the future of the construction projects, dining services, athletics, parking, Greek life, residential living, academics, and much more. The forum will allow students to ask questions regarding the budget or any other issues they may have. This is a great chance for students to meet in an open and informal environment and learn about what’s happening on campus and how it effects students. Sincerely, H.
