Special Awards

This year’s special awards will be presented in the following areas: biology (animal heath and organismal biology), atmospheric sciences, astronomy, computer technology and/or engineering. They are awarded by the following organizations.

Center for Math and Science Education, WCU
Teacher door prizes

Unitied States Air Force 14th Weather Squadron
Special category awards/prizes for two Atmospheric Sciences-related projects in both the elementary school and middle/senior high competitions.

Director’s Award for best project in organismal biology (elementary and middle/senior high competitions).

Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute awards for best projects in astronomy

College of Veterinary Medicine, NC State University
Equine Health Program Award for best animal heath project
This year the award will be High School age group only. $50, Certificate and tour of vet school.

The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) a collaborative venture of University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Duke University and North Carolina State University is pleased to provide the Innovation and Technology award to a student whose project demonstrates high standards in technology and/or engineering. Special consideration shall be given to projects that increase public awareness of the integration of computer science and computing technologies into science and engineering used in Earth Science and/or Environmental Management.
