Goal: To present an overview of the most common communicable diseases affecting substance users. Diseases discussed include HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Viral Hepatitis and Tuberculosis. Basic epidemiology, risk assessment, prevention and treatment considerations are explored.
Objectives:
1. To understand the epidemiology and risk profile of substance users in relationship to HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases.
2. To examine the concept and practice of infection control using universal precautions
