Goal: This course builds on the introductory course combining substance abuse practice issues with dually diagnosed (communicable disease) clients. Practice issues related to ethic, mandatory reporting, families and the legal system are explored.
Objectives:
1. To review of the epidemiology, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases associated with substance use.
2. To examine how the presence of a communicable disease affects the clinician- client relationship.
3. To explore current research and models of prevention of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases and health promotion among substance users.

HIV prevention with IDUs
Social Marketing as a prevention technique
HIV/AIDS and Ethics, Mandatory Reporting, and Families
Minors at risk
HIV dementia and substance abuse treatment
The importance of partners and the dilemmas of partner notification
Costs:
$100 for this workshop or you may register for the four substance abuse workshops (18 hours) for $250.
