Theatre Audition Requirements
Admittance to any of WCU's Theatre Programs require one of the following: audition, interview or portfolio review by the senior faculty members in the area of intended degree.
Audition dates are scheduled for the spring of each year. This year's dates for auditions for the performance-based degree programs are: Saturday, February 27th, 2010 and Saturday, March 20th, 2010. Interviews and portfolio reviews are scheduled individually for all degree concentrations based in Technical Theatre and Design. Please download, complete, and return the Theatre Program Audition/Interview Application Form (Word). You must also be admitted to Western Carolina University. Please visit the Office of Admissions for admissions requirements and the application process.
Acting
Auditionees must perform 2 contrasting, contemporary monologues. These monologues must be 2 minutes or less each. Auditionees must bring or send in a recent picture or headshot that will be kept on file. Auditionees may bring or send in a résumé, video/DVD of their work for consideration.
Technical Theatre/Design
Portfolio Reviews and Interviews are scheduled individually in the spring semester for consideration for admittance in the following fall. Designers must submit a portfolio or design work along with a letter or recommendation from either a director or employer. Technicians must be interviewed prior to admittance either in person or via phone, and have submitted a letter or recommendation. Portfolios must be submitted at the time of the interview, and may be photographed or copied for faculty consideration.
*The department will accept auditions in video form for performers and phone interviews for non-performance degree intended students. This is an exception for those students that are unable to attend one of the dates for auditions/interviews.
