Graduate students may apply to become individual tutors. In this program, tutors are trained to work collaboratively with students in individual sessions on any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to finishing touches. An English concentration is not required to become a tutor, but a willingness to learn is.

This new initiative—the first of its kind in the UNC system—addresses undergraduate writing needs by providing focused support in classes where faculty members have requested extra help.
Peer tutors, called Fellows, work closely with 10-12 students, reading drafts of their papers, writing thorough endnotes, and holding conferences to discuss revision strategies. Students revise their papers based on their collaborative work with their Fellow and submit revisions to their instructor, who reviews the draft, with Fellow’s comments, and the final copy to determine the grade.
We are looking for rising sophomores and juniors to serve as Fellows. Applicants should be willing to commit to the program for at least two years. Download an application (PDF).
