Online Writing Resources
Welcome to our menu of writing resources. To find your way around, first consider whether you need help with any academic strategies such as better reading skills, writing effective papers, or taking useful notes in lecture classes.

If not, you may need help with specific assignment strategies, for example summarizing a journal article or creating an annotated bibliography.

Research and documentation issues are weighty enough to deserve their own category, including help with plagiarism, research papers, and citation styles.

Writing in your academic discipline will have its own standards and challenges. If you can’t find your major department listed, email Barbara Hardie, director of the University Writing Center, to let her know.

If you’ve addressed all the big writing issues, consider those at sentence level. An errant semi-colon will drive some instructors crazy, and the last thing you want to do is distract your reader from your meaningful content.

Finally, many students arrive at college completely ignorant of how important writing is in the professional world, from kindergarten teachers, to accountants, to engineers, to nurses, no one escapes! Start paying attention now, and you’ll be an excellent candidate for whatever job you seek after graduation.
