SoTL Retreat 2009

WHY: The purposes of the Retreat are to provide opportunities, both in collaborative informal discussion and in more formal concurrent presentations, for those who are new to SoTL and experienced SoTL practitioners to:

  1. Critically examine teaching and students' learning
  2. Pursue new directions in SoTL research
  3. Broaden and deepen scholarship

WHO:  Participation will be limited to approximately 40 full-time members of WCU's faculty and EPA staff. All current full-time tenured and tenure-track members of the faculty, full-time faculty with Lecturer or Instructor appointments, and EPA staff with teaching or teaching support responsibilities are eligible. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis while space is available.

Theme: Finding New Directions

The theme of the 2009 retreat is “finding new directions.” Participants will be encouraged and supported in their efforts to find new directions for their own SoTL research  on campus. The Retreat will provide conditions that allow participants to formulate responses to the following questions:

  • What sources of assistance and expertise are available at at WCU to support SoTL?
  • When and where can I share what my SoTL research with others?
  • What new and interesting questions are in SoTL research?
  • What methods can I use to explore those questions?
