"I like the friendly atmosphere at Western. Before I came, I couldn't see myself here, but now I can't imagine myself anywhere else."

At Western, we're pleased to offer you special opportunities that will enhance and support your academic experience.
Incentives
Take advantage of the teaching incentives available to you. Check out WCU's Teaching Fellows Program, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, and the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation, which offers five-year fellowships to beginning and pre-service science teachers (application deadline is Jan. 14, 2009). Also note that if you teach in specific high-needs school systems serving students from low-income families for at least five years, a portion of your federal student loan could be cancelled. Visit the U.S. Department of Education's information on repaying student loans and find out more.
Scholarships
Consider all your scholarship options—from the North Carolina Teacher Incentive Program (NC TIP) to WCU scholarships for majors and a wealth of merit- and needs-based scholarships.
Internships & Co-Ops
Visit the Office of Field Experiences and learn more about WCU's teaching practice requirements.
