WCU is a University of North Carolina Campus

Office of the Provost

The Office of the Provost provides administrative oversight of three university divisions: academic affairs, enrollment management and information technology.  The office is headed by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor who is a member of the chancellor’s executive leadership team.  As such, the provost assists the chancellor in achieving the university’s vision and mission, provides coordination of issues and initiatives among other vice chancellors and stands in for the chancellor when he is absent or unable to perform duties.

Academic Affairs is administratively organized into colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Allied Professions, Fine and Performing Arts, Health and Human Sciences and the Kimmel School of Construction Management and Technology.  An Honors College and the Graduate School and Research are additional units as well as Educational Outreach, the Asheville Center, Hunter library, International Programs and Services, Undergraduate Studies, and the Office of Assessment. Within the colleges are several centers that facilitate collaboration with regional, state, and federal agencies in a variety of ways (see organizational charts).

Enrollment Management encompasses the offices of financial aid, the registrar’s office, academic advisement, Student Support Services, Disability Services, and the Academic Success Program.  These offices report directly to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the Office of the Provost. The offices of Admission and Orientation report to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

The Information Technology division provides technological support and assistance for the institution. These units include networking services, educational technologies, applications development and support, office support, systems and operations, web management, IT services, and the IT service center.  The Associate Provost and Chief Information Officer have oversight of these units.

The Office of the Provost also provides direct oversight for special units such as the Coulter Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Career Services, the Academic Success Centers, and the Center for Service Learning.

The charts below indicate the various divisions, communication structures and reporting lines of the Office of the Provost.
