This article features an event that occurred in the past.
A 5-kilometer foot race and 1-mile “Fun Run” will be held on the Western Carolina University campus Saturday, Sept. 27, as part of festivities at Western’s 34th annual Mountain Heritage Day.
The 5-K will begin at 9 a.m. and the Fun Run, for children under age 12, will start at 8:30 a.m. The events are sponsored by the Sport Management Association, a student organization at Western.
Registration and check-in will begin at 8 a.m. on race day in front of McKee Building on Central Drive. Entry fees are $15 for 5-K runners who register by Sept. 24, and $20 on race day; $10 for the Fun Run; and $10 for “phantom runners” who do not wish to run, but want to make a donation to the SMA endowed scholarship fund.
All participants, including phantom runners, will receive a T-shirt, bottled water and fruit at the completion of the race. Runners with the best times will be recognized and receive an award.
